my blog
According to West (2014), a
reflection analysis portrays the experiences by exploring ones learning and
informing ones practices. It helps to occupy in transformative learning by
engaging reason and emotion, enabling individuals to work through contradictory
feelings, reactions and understand other individuals better. The aim of this report
is to help demonstrate my understanding of my motivations, experiences and
knowledge to develop skills necessary to become lifelong learner.
Motivation refers to the explanations
that underline behaviour that can be characterised by disposition and
disruption. Motivation can be intrinsic which portrays individuals that are
animated by personal enjoyment, interest or pleasure, however extrinsic
motivation is governed by reinforcing possibilities. An individual’s motivation
can vary across subject areas and this domain can change as the age increases
(Wilson and Courtney, 2002). This blog will give me the opportunity to explore
and learn about my practices which will then help me engage, learn and
understand my ambitions, goals and plans.

In order for someone to be
motivated I believe you should be willing to do it first which is the most
important thing. Growing up in an area where apprentices were more common I
believe this motivated me as a person to graduate with a degree. This is
because I’ve always believed knowledge is power and in order to progress to the
highest step you need education and a degree to do so to some extent.
Everyday we make small and big
choices that add up to who we are today and who we will be tomorrow because we
have hundred chances everyday. Growing up I’ve had businessmen role models who
have inspired me want to go further into learning and understanding the
business industry to open my own business one day. My biggest motivation in
doing and studying business was my father, being a successful businessman
himself owning his own clothing line and real estate which has inspired me to
do the same and have my own. My father once quoted education is the root to
success and this has helped me build myself into the kind of man I want to be
and to give myself enormous amount of power.
My time at University so far
has not only expanded my knowledge but in fact has alleviated my networking and
life skills and I portrayed this when I attended a ACN networking event where I
met many directors, businesses, managers and executives and talk to each one of
them to share my vision, receive feedback and enhance my communication skills. It
has also enabled me to become a responsible adult that is now able to socialise
and talk to various types of people. I have been able to understand and work
with people of different ages, sex and ethnicity in my lecture and seminar
groups. I believed I have become very confident outside of university and this
is portrayed in my current job role where I am required to communicate to
clients on a daily basis at an estate agent, which requires me to behave very
professional. I have been able to perfect my organisational, communication and
punctuality skills, which has enabled me to deal with deadlines and work on a
very tight schedule.
I have many personal mantras that have helped me to
where I am today and progress such as; choose purpose over perfect, Don’t give
up, good things take time, all progress takes place outside your comfort zone,
if it doesn’t challenge you it wont change you, everyday is a second chance and
I can and I will. Overall, the mantra that I believe in the most is ‘everyday
is a second chance’ and this is because it has helped me understand that I can
correct my mistakes as may times as I have the opportunity until I am able to
perfect them. It has helped me believe not everything has to be done perfect
the first time round and learning the hard way through your mistakes is what
makes you stronger. This is evident when I failed my first of college during A
Levels. While all my friends were distressed from their results, I knew there
was a way to resolve this by redoing the year and choosing topics I enjoyed (Business
and Media) rather than those not in my capability (Biology and Psychology). I
then finished Sixth form with C, C, C, which was very pleasant giving me the
chance I always worked for and attaining a place in my chosen University,
London Southbank.
Although I have been able to polish many of my skills,
I am still learning to perfect them even more everyday. I am learning to
conflict resolution skills with my peers because when disagreements occur while
working in a group, I am not always able to solve them calmly and find
compromises therefore I am hoping my remaining years at University will be able
to perfect this and aid me throughout my career. I also aim to emphasis
diplomacy and maintain a professional tone when communicating with others, which
means never corresponding when I am angry and frustrated.
Overall, I believe I am performing to the best of my
ability and always aim too. This assignment has helped me realise my strengths,
weaknesses, vision, mantra, skills and the things that motivate me.
